The growing interest in natural, bespoke beauty and skin care products has given way to a blooming artisanal industry. We caught up with Mathahle Stofile, founder of ‘The Matte Project’ to tell us about her favourite local cosmetics brands.
MS: The packaging is sublime. The name is an acronym for the seasons (winter, autumn, summer, spring) and each product is made to aid your skin in whatever challenging elements brought by each season. Very clever.
MS: Try their crocodile oil balm, which is made up of all natural ingredients including beeswax and essential oils. It’s a multi-purpose skin balm for all skin types. Recommended for the whole family.
MS: When it comes to nail colours, you pretty much get the same colours wherever you look. So things boil down to quality and value for money. I love that Ice Box, a South African brand noticed how obsessed we are with our nails (so many nail bars!) and decided to give us a home made brand.
4. Lipidol Oils
MS: The range is face and body oils for cleansing and moisturizing. I love that they are scent free, affordable and accessible. I’d recommend these to the entire family. There’s an oil for everyone.
MS: The Neroli body balm is a definite favourite. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves a good body pamper before bed. Africology uses essential oils in all their products so the scent is quite intense, but I love it and find it soothing. It reminds me of a spa.
Sanlam HmC remains a platform that promotes local products of the highest quality and we look forward to bringing you some of these coveted brands at the 8th edition of the Sanlam Handmade Contemporary Fair.
